Swimming in WA

With the largest expanse of coastline in Australia, it’s no surprise that swimming is one of the State’s favourite past times, with pool and open water swimming boasting huge participation right around Western Australia.


Western Australia has produced some of Australia’s most successful swimmers including Eamon Sullivan, Todd Pearson and Blair Evans, as well as the 2010 Australian Open Water Champion Rhys Mainstone.


Western Australia’s active swimming community are able to participate in a range of local, state and national competitions and events throughout the year. In 2012 Western Australia hosted Australian Open Water Championships (February 17-19) as well as the EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships (September 12-16).


There are 85 clubs and more than 5000 registered swimmers right across Western Australia, with the sport nationally also having over 100,000 members and 1,100 clubs.
